News and Notes for Thursday, February 26th, 2025.
Spring Training is in full swing for the Cleveland Guardians, not even a week into the 2025 pre-season. With that comes a lot of interviews. From players to coaches and front office personnel to radio broadcasters, there is a lot to catch up on.
Acting beat reporter Anthony Castrovince sat down with beloved voice of Cleveland Baseball, Tom Hamilton to discuss the basics of broadcasting, his tenure with Cleveland, and his upcoming acceptance into the Hall of Fame.
Cade Smith and Tanner Bibee did an interview with Canton News-Talk radio station WHBC 1480. They talked the 2024 season, expectations for the 2025 season, and more.
During Tuesday’s Spring Training game versus the Brewers Steven Kwan was mic’d up while out in left field and interviewed with Matt Underwood and Rick Manning during the half inning.
Will Brennan was also interviewed during Tuesday’s game in the dugout with Andre Knott. They talked about Brennan’s off-season bulk up, touched on the team’s mindset going into the off-season, and the improvements Brennan needs to make to perform better than last year. They also talked off-season fun, highlighting the amount of players who got married or engaged this last off-season.
For those who don’t keep up with the players on social media, Will Brennan, Steven Kwan, and OF Coach JT Maguire got engaged. Steven Kwan (they got married shortly after getting engaged), Erik Sabrowski, Tim Herrin, Tyler Freeman, former Guardian Myles Straw, former Guardian Josh Naylor, and former Guardian Cam Gallagher all got married in the off-season. Of course, its worth mentioning that Shane and Kara Bieber are expecting their first child any day.
Terry Pluto spoke on the Guardians penchant for signing/retaining pitchers who needed Tommy John.
Chris Antonetti and Bob DiBiasio joined Tom Hamilton and Jim Rosenhaus in the booth throughout yesterday’s game. I wasn’t able to find the interviews separated out, but the archive of the game broadcast is available.
If you weren’t able to catch the game, and don’t have the time to listen to the broadcast, Quincy has the game recap here.
