The Cleveland Guardians dropped game two of the three game series last night. What otherwise was a great outing from Gavin Williams was marred by a bad inning that gave the Orioles a quick 4 run lead in the bottom of the second. With the first three batters reaching, Gavin gave up a grand slam to Jackson Holliday and sealed the fate of the Guardians.
Gavin Williams wasn’t the worst pitching meltdown though. The full game recap can be found here.
Despite last night’s loss, the Guardians remain 0.5 games back behind the first place Tigers who are 10 and 8. The Guardians remain one game above .500 at 9 and 8.
The AL Central is definitely showing some weaknesses early on in the season. The Tigers are the only team with a positive run differential at +14. The Guardians have the second “best” run differential in the division at -7.
Guardians beat report Tim Stebbins had a great excerpt on his newsletter highlighting the importance of having veteran pitchers like Sewald and Junis in the bull pen.
