News and Notes for Monday, April 7th, 2025
Well, that went about as badly as it could have gone for the Guardians.
Through nine games, the Guardians are 3-6. This isn’t the end of the world by any means, but there are some red flags. One, the pitching staff is 27th in ERA and 29th in FIP. Two, the team is last in outs above average at -6. Three, the team is 25th in Baserunning Runs Above Average at -1. The best you can say about Cleveland is that they are middle of the pack with 96 wRC+ and only 24th in BABIP. So, some positive regression should be headed their way on offense?
It’s time to come home and get right. It would be great if the team could announce a surprise extension or two to accompany the stadium opening and make us all feel a little better. Of course, Cleveland weather is Cleveland weathering and we’ve got a high of 34 degrees for Tuesday’s planned home opener.
AROUND MLB:
Vladimar Guerrero signed a 14 year $500 million extension with the Blue Jays. So Kyle Manzardo won’t be extending on Tuesday, I guess.
