Home Opener!
The long baseball-less Monday has passed, a rare day that not even MiLB can fill my Guardians related needs. There was no games but a few minor league transactions were made during the off day:
- Placed RHP Jack Leftwich on the 7-Day IL in COL.
- Re-instated RHP Mason Hickman from the Development List in COL.
- Transferred RHP Carter Spivey from COL to AKR.
- Transferred RHP Alonzo Richardson from LCO to COL.
The season hasn’t started off as well as we hoped, but today is a great day to get on track with our Home Opener against the White Sox. The Guardians are the final team to play at their home field this season. The Sox are trotting out Shane Smith, the first pick in the most recent Rule 5 Draft, to face Ben Lively.
This will be Smith’s second start of the year (and career); his first being a solid start against the Twins (5.2IP, 2ER, 4BB, 3K). His command was spotty so Cleveland would be wise to keep up the patient approach they have displayed in the young season. Watch out for Smith’s changeup, its one of the best in the league. The 90mph hard change can induce lots of whiffs and groundballs. Expect to see it thrown a lot to Guardians lefties.

Around the League:
- Francisco Lindor logs 1500th hit during 3 hit game
- McKenzie Gore dazzles against the Dodgers… somehow
- Royals take game 1 against the Twins in a 4 game set
- Tigers ride the back of Casey Mize to a 6-2 win against the Yankees
- Kyle Tucker Continues to play like he wants to double Vladdy’s contract
Here’s hoping that the Guards get a little momentum going against the 2-7 White Sox. Cleveland was an excellent 50-30 at home last season, they will need a similar result this season if they want to repeat as AL Central Champions.
