Cleveland Guardians minor league recap for Thursday, April 10, 2025.
Clippers 6, Red Sox 5
Box Score: Clippers improve to 7-2
This was a pretty ugly game for the Clippers until the final out of the game when Will Brennan hit a walk-off grand slam down 2-5 in the bottom of the 9th inning. Will Wilson hit a Home Run off of Lucas Giolito which is very impressive.
Andrew Walters pitched a scoreless inning in relief with two strikeouts. He has yet to allow an earned run this season and should be in Cleveland at some point over the next month.
Clippers 4, Red Sox 5(Makeup)
Box Score: Clippers fall to 7-3
Will Wilson stays blazing hot and continues to make a case that he deserves a chance to be called up to the big leagues. He went 3-4 with two doubles and 3 RBIs and is now hitting .406 with an OPS of 1.281. Juan Brito went 1-3 with a BB and has also has a nice start to the season hitting .314. Will Brennan and Petey Halpin both also went 2-4.
Will Dion had a solid start, pitching 5 innings, striking out 5 batters and giving up just 2 earned runs. His ERA on the season sits at a respectable 3.18.
RubberDucks 13, Curve 1
Box Score: RubberDucks improve to 5-0
How about these RubberDucks? Will they ever lose? CJ Kayfus is an absolute hitting machine, and probably should have started the year in AAA in my opinion. He went 4-5 with a HR and a double and is now hitting an unbelievable .524 with an OPS of 1.440. Cooper Ingle went 2-4 with a HR of his own and a BB. Travis Bazzana went 1-6 with his first professional triple. Guy Lipscomb went 2-2 with 3 walks. This lineup has been insane over the first 5 games, let’s hope they’re able to keep it up.
Rodney Boone had a really impressive outing. He pitched just 3.1 innings but he struck out 7 batters and gave up just one run. Jake Miller, Ross Carver, and Allan Hernandez combined for 5 strikeouts in 5.2 scoreless relief innings.
Whitecaps 13, Captains 1
Box Score: Captains fall to 3-2
This was a rough one for our boys in Lake County. It hasn’t been a great start for some of our top prospects there. Jaison Chourio went 1-3 with a BB today, but he’s hitting just .200 with a .568 OPS on the season. Ralphy Velazquez is hitting just .059 with a .539 OPS on the season. It is early, and I expect them both to turn it around fairly soon, but it hasn’t exactly been an ideal start for those two.
Josh Hartle made his Guardians organizational debut after being acquired in the Luis Ortiz trade and it was certainly one to forget. The former Wake Forest starter allowed 3 earned runs in 3 innings pitched, while striking out 4 batters and walking 3. It wasn’t a disaster outing by any means, but one that we would’ve liked to see be better.
Cannon Ballers 5, Hillcats 1
Box Score: Hillcats fall to 3-2
Similarly to our top prospects in Lake County, it’s been a rough start offensively for nearly everyone in Lynchburg, too. Welbyn Francisca had high expectations coming into this season after dominating in Lynchburg at the end of last season. He’s hitting .067 with an OPS of .355. Luis Merejo, an exciting young bat, is hitting just .071 with an OPS of .306. These two were both incredibly impressive in Lynchburg last season, I fully expect them to turn it around and have great seasons after their slow starts.
