We are in a BAD stretch for Guardians starting pitching, folks.
Tanner Bibee gave up 7 runs and 4 home runs to a pretty poor Angels lineup last night as the Guardians lost 10-4. Triston McKenzie was also bad in relief, walking 4 and giving up 3 runs in one and two-thirds. I would assume Bibee will figure things out as Stephen Vogt indicated his belief was after the game, but I wonder if McKenzie is DFA’d today given the potential need to get another arm in the pen in case Luis Ortiz can’t find the zone today. Not ideal.
Guardians pitchers have a 5.16 ERA so far this season. I think the most stressful part of the early season for a baseball fan is not knowing what to believe because you can’t tell much of anything until Memorial Day. We’ll, one thing I know… if they don’t dramatically improve that number, this will be a bad baseball team. I believe they will figure it out.
Hey, Carlos Santana and Bo Naylor hit their first home runs of the season and Joey Cantillo pitched well for two innings. There’s always something to be optimistic about. Santana is now sixth all-time in franchise home runs.
Jose Ramirez had his fourth error in four games and I’m a tad concerned about that.
The Guardians need to realize that Daniel Schneemann is not a major league player. Time to bring Angel Martinez back.
Today, we have an afternoon game. Our long national nightmare of staying up until ungodly hour on the East Coast is finally over (I don’t mind a West Coast trip to start the season, but, wow, my sleep schedule hates me).
Our Brian Hemminger will soon tell you about Travis Bazzana’s four hit night including his first major league home run for Akron in our minor league recap. Very positive signs for the Guardians’ top prospect so far.
Around MLB:
The Twins won, the Tigers beat the White Sox and the Royals lost to the Orioles.
The Padres have now lost two in a row, but those incorrigible Dodgers got things back on track, winning their 9th game.
