News and Notes for Saturday, April 26th, 2025
The Guardians will play a doubleheader against the Red Sox. at 1:10PM and 6:10PM EDT today.
The evening bill will feature Doug Nikhazy starting and making his major league debut. T.J. Nestico has some useful metrics on Nikhazy’s stuff:
Doug Nikhazy gets the call!
Nikhazy is a soft tossing lefty that wields a deep pitch mix. His results have been strong in AAA this season with a 3.44 ERA across 18.1 IP

Quite disappointing news that Guardians’ second base propsect Juan Brito tore a ligament in his thumb on a slide and needed surgery. His expected return is in 8-12 weeks, but we know from experience that a player’s power can take about a year to come back after the thumb ligament repair. Looks like Gabriel Arias, Brayan Rocchio and Daniel Schneemann are getting full looks this year (maybe Will Wilson, as well).
AROUND MLB:
The Royals shutout the Astros and the Twins dominated the Angels.
Paul Skenes outdueled Yamomoto as the Pirates shutout the Dodgers.
