News and Notes for Tuesday, October 29th, 2024
The Dodgers won 4-2 last night to go up 3-0 on the Yankees.
I enjoyed laughing at Frankensteinish Giancarlo Stanton getting thrown out trying to score from second on a single. I enjoyed seeing Alex Verdugo bat flip and admire a meaningless 2-run home run with two outs in the ninth. I enjoyed seeing mediocre Yankees’ pitchers attempt to beat Freddie Freeman on inside fastballs. I enjoyed seeing Yankees swing and miss at two dozen four-seamers in the zone. I enjoyed seeing the Yankees continue to be very bad defensively. I also enjoyed the fact that they haven’t had a first baseman hit a home run since July 31st.
I did not enjoy realizing anew that this team was eminently beatable and the Guardians failed to do so. Ah well. You can’t have everything. If the Dodgers can sweep them tonight, it will add a little more to my joy bucket.
The Athletic’s Zack Meisel has us covered with some good Guardians content today, offering a postmortem on the season, notes about their need for a hitting coach and starting pitching help, and he and T.J. Zuppe on the Selby is Godcast offered the first part of their discussion of some offseason storylines. All well-worth your time!
