Morning news and notes for April 17
In 2024, you would have deserved a head examination if you suggested that Logan Allen could shut down the Oriole offense.
But he is pitching better to start 2025, and the Baltimore offense is far from hitting their stride in the early going. LTA almost got through 6 full innings, and was never in any trouble. Paul Sewald finished the 6th, before Cade Smith gave up a pair of garbage time runs that set up a save situation for Emmanuel Clase. A save which he converted with relative ease.
It was only made harder by an Angel Martínez misplay in RF. In Goodyear and now in Baltimore, Martinez seems much more comfortable in CF than in the corners.
Around baseball
- Carlos Correa is hurt again. So is Matt Wallner.
…but the Twins won. - However, the Yankees beat the Royals, Quinn Priester shut out the Tigers, and CWS was destroyed by Sacramento.
- LGFT Josh Naylor homered off LGFT Connor Gillispie.
