Let’s just forget about this one.
The Cleveland Guardians faced the LA Dodgers in the Dodger’s last game before heading to Japan. Doug Nikhazy made his first start of Spring Training and was punished for it.
- Nikhazy finished the day with 4H, 7ER, 4BB, 2Ks in 1.2 innings pitched. I’m not going to read into this start. You can’t throw a pitcher who finished in AAA last year into a game and expect them to be perfect against a World Series caliber lineup.
- The next couple of pitchers had similar struggles against the Dodgers. Ellerts worked 1⁄3 innings allowing one run and four walks. Tim Herrin had an uncharacteristic outing, working 2⁄3 innings and allowing one run, one hit, and walking three.
- The starters did not have a productive offense. The only highlights being walks from Schneemann and Manzardo and a single from Arias.
- Kahlil Watson had a good at bat, hitting a single, stealing 2nd base, and advancing to 3rd on a wild pitch. Micah Pries hit a triple to score Watson.
It was nice to see that, once the Dodger’s starters were removed from the game, the Guardians substitutes held their own and made the last half of the game interesting. The future is bright for the Guardians organization and that is the only thing I’m choosing to take away from this game.
