Our first look at Jakob Junis
The Cleveland Guardians took on the Chicago White Sox, facing some familiar faces in the process.
- Gavin Williams had another fantastic start today. He is keeping speed on his fastball and showed more movement with it against the White Sox. He was sitting around 95mph on that fastball and ended the day with 3.2IP, giving up two hits and one walk. Williams struck out 7, throwing 53 pitches.
- José Ramírez and Jhonkensy Noel both almost hit home runs.
- Gabriel Arias hit an RBI single in the bottom of the 2nd to score Noel for the game’s only run.
- We got our first look a Jakob Junis who worked one inning. It was 3-up, 3-down with a strikeout for Junis. He primarily threw his sinker and slider but also used his change up sparingly.
- Guardians hitters struggled against James Karinchak’s curveball. A plight on the batters unfortunately carrying over from last year.
- Logan Allen was used out of the bullpen again and absolutely dominated. In 3.0 innings of work Allen only allowed two hits and struck out three. His Spring Training ERA is currently sitting at 0.84. With Erik Sabrowski an unknown due to elbow inflammation, Logan Allen is shaping up to be the replacement piece in the bullpen.
If Gavin, Bibee, Allen, Nikhazy, and Cantillo can continue what they’ve established in Spring Training, the Guardians will have a chance at a strong rotation and to bolster the already impressive bullpen.
Final Score: Guardians 1 – White Sox 0
